Eco Factor: Zero-emission three-wheeled vehicle powered by electricity.
Three-wheeled vehicles are destined to be more popular in the near future as fuel prices with continue to reach new highs, and electric motors will be better off in vehicles with one less wheel. Trying to make the most of the opportunity automakers, including Zap, are unveiling three-wheeled electric vehicles, which could well write the future of transportation. Zap’s Alias three-wheeled vehicle first surfaced in 2008 as a conceptual drawing, and now the company has announced that the vehicle will be built by Chinese automaker Zhejiang Jonway Automobile Co. Ltd.
The vehicle has entered in the Automotive X-Prize competition, which is kicking off in Michigan this week. The vehicle is slated to have an operating range of about 100 miles on its fully charged lithium-ion battery pack. Costing $35,000, the vehicle will be competing with 27 other teams for the $10 million in prize money.
