World’s first inventory to map vehicular pollution ‘hot spots’

vehicle emission 9A Queensland University of Technology academic is developing a pollution map, being compiled for identifying car and truck emission “hot spots” in south-east Queensland. It is claimed to be the first inventory in the world. It is of ultra-fine particles present in vehicle emissions, and cause health problems like respiratory, lung and cardiovascular disorders.

Diane Keogh is optimistic that her research will provide information to planners helping them to find the best location for roads and housing developments.

Diane said,

They’ll cover the broad south-east Queensland region [and find] what the pollution levels are… They’ll be able to quantify the fleets on the roads in terms of public or private transport.
