Wildlife sculptures from Rachel Denny: Unique take on man’s impact on nature

Art is indeed sometimes hard to decipher and most often it seems that different people offer different interpretations of the same work. But a work of art reveals more about the artist than the world that he is trying to portray. In her collection of ‘Works of Nature’ Rachel Denny offers her view of how man tries to change nature, alter its elements and domesticate it so that he feels comfortable with his surroundings. While the perspective and ideas for her work seem to be drawn from the hunting trips that she went along with her father as a kid, the skill is a culmination of the cold winters when she stayed indoors and worked on her embroidery skills.

Works of Nature

We have always maintained that it is one thing to have the imagination necessary to create great works of art and a whole different proposition when it comes to the ability to convert the vision into reality. Her range of work includes sculptures like the ‘Sweet Tooth’, which is an animal crafted from cellophane wrapped candies and the ‘War Horse’ which is a mare that has been plated with pennies to give it that alluring copper look. While some of these sculptures have been crafted from recycled wool, others have been made from industrial waste.

Rachel Denny is pretty creative and dexterous when it comes to incorporating and using various materials into her art work and it is indeed refreshing to see various materials being used by an artist for her work instead of limiting themselves to just one. The creation of a piece like War Horse is indeed interesting as Rachel had to go to the rail track and lay them out so that they could be flattened and came back later to collect them. Seems like a clever thing to do instead of wasting your own energy in flattening them out. Her woolen installations are equally appealing and continue to showcase her love for nature.
