Eco Factor: Zero-emission unmanned aerial vehicle proposed for security monitoring at the London Olympics.

VTOL Technologies is proposing an unmanned aerial vehicle that can take off vertically and maneuver around tops of buildings for security monitoring at the London Olympics. The single fixed-wing aircraft would be able to lift off the ground with four thrust vectoring ducted-fan units.

Once in the air, these units will flip back, allowing the UAV to fly forward at a high speed. Dubbed the Flying Wing, the proposed UAV can also work more aptly against wing gusts. The designers claim that the UAV has a maximum flight time of about two hours on its lithium-polymer battery pack, and the company is planning to increase the endurance by 50 percent in the next two years using the latest in fuel-cell technology.
