UGA Technology helps produce ethanol from biomass

Researchers at the University of Georgia have a developed a technology that can help in producing great amounts of ethanol from biomass such as grass, non-food crops and yard waste. Most of the gas, which is burnt, can be actually used to produce ethanol, which is a good additive to fuel and thereby reduce air pollution. The technology is amazing because it is fast, mild and the acid-free nature of the pretreatment process increases ethanol production by up to 10 times. This can prevent usage of harmful chemicals that are used in the production of ethanol. Developing a technology that can breakdown non-food crops and weeds into ethanol is one of the best innovations environment scientists could have found. The technology is called the UGA technology and is inexpensive, green and reduces the costs and the carbon footprint associated with similar procedures.
