Trashing Fashion: Haute-Art from discarded waste!

Fashion has some weird ways and some are pretty strange indeed. With it already being crazy and more than just unpredictable, it is no surprise that they are adding new and cooler trends to it by recycling old garbage and turning the trash in to something really useful. Green designing with clothes is nothing new and having had plenty of designers taking the route both in terms of clothes and the accessories, this one comes as no surprise. Most of it is just fun, but the jewelry part of it is pretty cool indeed.

Enviro-Couture features 100% recycled newspaper wearables created by Elena Gregusova (a continuation of her “Wear the News™” collection), as well as the recycled hardware jewelry of Barbara Gregusova. Barbara’s abstract, geometric jewelry collection is resourcefully crafted from recycled hard drives, laser toners, ink-jet cartridges and other re-possessed electronic waste. Traditional recycling is certainly an obvious waste reduction solution, but for those of us who wear our green heart on our sleeve, perhaps ‘enviro-couture’ is another way to fashionably spread the pro-eco message.

Enviro-Couture: Haute Art from the Waste Container is on view at the Community Art Space North Vancouver, BC Canada through August 30, 2008. Even the ‘Wear the Paper’ feature is pretty fun and the hand-fan is something that many could do with papers at their own place. Seems like green is in, more than we ever dreamed of!
