The ultimate tribute to re-cycling: Cardboard Bike

Created by a product design student at Sheffield Hallam University, the Cardboard Bike takes a fresh new look at affordable nature friendly transport systems. Created by Phil Bridge, a member of Stockport bike club Wills Wheels, the bike originated as a reaction against the increasing number of bicycle thefts in England. The unusual concept basically draws upon the uselessness of cardboard in the second hand goods market and boasts of a frame crafted entirely out of Hexacomb board which has a honeycomb structure and is waterproof at the point of manufacture. An entire bike can be made out of a single £3 sheet of cardboard with additional components like tyres and chains being bought separately that take the total cost of the bike upto £15. The design is made primarily for everyday use and can last a good 6 months. Of course Phil also plans to sell the idea to companies who can use the cardboard elements of the bike as advertising space and can offer users free replacements when the old frame wore out. Neat!
