Steampunk inspired 4M Retro Wooden Computer

The most interesting forms of design that we see around us today are inspired either by futuristic possibilities or the steampunk genre. Of course not that all design are rooted in the two styles, but we see it so often, I couldn’t help but mention. The work done by artist Love Hultén, in all respects reflects his nostalgia and his enthusiasm for the pseudo Victorian mechanical steampunk style. He had earlier designed the Sputnik 0667, an all in one PC that resembled a Russian television set from the 50’s and now he is out with the 4M, a retro wooden computer.

4M Retro Wooden Computer: HAL 1000

The design of the 4M comes directly from the HAL 9000 from the 2001: A Space Odyssey, the movie that villainzed HAL, the heuristically programmed algorithmic computer.

Walnut lumber has been used for the tower’s front panel and the monitor’s friend. There is a rather menacing orb at the front. Apparently it looks like an eye, but we have no idea about its function. There is a magnifying lens in the brass window, which lets to peak into the CPU’s insides.

The innovative reuse and redesign of wood this creation is worthy of appreciation. the design is aesthetically great to look at and will fit well with every corner of the house, giving a warm classical feel.
