South Africa gets US$11 million to Make 2010 World Cup eco-friendly

transportation in south africa to go green

To make the 2010 World Cup go green, the transport and waste management in South Africa during the time need to go environmentally friendly. To ensure this, the World Bank-backed fund was willing to give the South African government a grant of about US$11 million (euro8.6 million).

Though it does not have to match Germany’s superb rail and tram network, it can promote simple measures like – the use of dedicated bus lanes, more bicycles etc. this will surely leave a lasting impact on the environment. As during the event 350,000 foreign tourists will be traveling to and between matches.

Hope the South African government will not miss this opportunity of using the 2010 World Cup as a catalyst to gift the country with a better and cleaner public transport system.
