Solar-powered Mototaxis for pollution plagued Peru

Eco Factor: Zero-emission electric Mototaxis developed for Peru.

Two-stroke engines are both polluting and noisy and that’s the reason why an ingenious professor at the University of San Marcos has created a solar panel retrofit for a two-stroke “mototaxi” that fill the streets of Lima in Peru.

These zero-emission mototaxis can run on pedal-power or a battery attached to the solar panels. The invention is ideal for places like Lima, which enjoys more than 350 sunny days each year. The researcher is hoping that a company will decide to mass produce the panels to retrofit mototaxis in Lima and other South American cities to reduce the problem of air pollution.

The three-wheelers can run cleanly and quietly with two 40W solar panels that are installed on the taxi roof. The electric engine replaces the conventional two-stroke gas guzzler.
