‘Solar Dye’ helps researchers cut down the cost of solar energy by 90%

Till now the main reason why people did not opt for solar energy was the high cost of solar panels. Researchers always dreamt of a day when solar technology will be made cheaper so that it can become a more efficient alternative to conventional energy sources and finally it seems that the day has come.

Researchers at the Massey University’s Nanomaterials Research Center have developed a technique that will enable users to generate electricity by paying just 10% of what they would have paid using silicon-based solar panels courtesy colored dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells. These dyes are made from natural compounds, such as hemoglobin.

These researchers have also stated that they have now developed the most efficient porphyrin dye in the world and aim to optimize and improve the cell construction and performance before they start mass producing these unique dyes.
