, Scandinavia’s recognized and award-winning architectural practice committed to innovative and sustainable design, has won the competition to design the new master plan and extension of Kolding Hospital in Denmark. Designed in collaboration with NIRAS, CREO, Balslev and GBL, the 32,000-m2 extension will include a bed ward, an emergency ward and a new main entrance. The orthogonal building structure will be extended by while allowing the nature and greenery of the landscape of Kolding river valley to penetrate in.

The new bed ward will be placed just above the existing building so as to provide mesmerizing view of the surrounding forest. The new entrance is planned to be merge beautifully with the west side of the existing hospital, allowing it to be visible and clear to patients and relatives. At the same time, the internal flow of the hospital is maintained and reinforced, while the entire hospital will be perceived as a complete structure where buildings and the nearby surroundings complement each other. The 77 million euro renewal project is scheduled to be complete by 2014.
