Eco Factor: Bicycle stand to harness renewable solar energy for electric bikes.

Sanyo Electric has opened a new stand for motor-assisted electric bikes in Tokyo. This is the second such solar-powered bike stand in the area and these two stands can offer a total of 100 motor-assisted bikes for rent. The station features 36 solar panels, which generate renewable electricity to recharge the station’s battery bank.

The station’s battery bank stores 9.7KWh of electricity, which is then used to recharge the bike’s onboard battery pack. The bike’s onboard battery pack offers a range of 30km on a single charge. The developers claim that once fully charged, the station can operate for up to three days even if it’s raining. The stations are also connected to the grid to ensure normal charging operation even through periods of prolonged rain.
