San Francisco Victorian house gets a 21st century ‘green’ makeover

Yen's House

Craig Steely has succeeded in giving a modern 21st century look to a Victorian home by constructing an eco friendly wooden facade around it. This would serve the purpose of the owners of this 19th century Victorian house, as they wanted to preserve it, but with a modern makeover.

Victorian architecture basically dated back to the middle and late 19th century, which actually coincides with the reign of Queen Victoria. Victorian buildings or ‘gingerbread’ houses in the United States do not have a specific style, but the basic architecture is quite the same. You would probably think that a facade would look like a misfit but that is not the case as the architect has chosen to give it an elegant wood facade made out of recycled wood that takes care of the neon green original Victorian house of the 1880s.

The house has been covered with a facade made of re-purposed wood, a glass penthouse which is frameless with a steel outer structure that partially supports the penthouse to give it a new and fresh look. The new house, a mix of the old and new, is a great way to modernize a home in an eco friendly manner by still keeping the original structure intact.
