South Carolina institutions will be conducting research on hydrogen fuel. For this, several companies will be partnering with the state-based institutions for a state grant of $15 million as the House Speaker Bobby Harrell proposed.

Besides becoming a leader in alternative fuels, this project will also make Carolina a major job creator. Harrell, in a news conference, opined that he would want South Carolina to lead the nation in a $2.6 trillion hydrogen fuel industry, in the next few decades.

The financial incentives to be provided by the state will be of more use for making the state a leader in environmental causes. It could also be important tools for helping the University of South Carolina go into research partnerships with private companies.

Harrell said,

This plan is centered around two things: developing a clean alternative fuel and creating jobs for our citizens.

For this to happen, we need to encourage private sector involvement in this field.
