Reduce your trucks’ idling with new ‘truck stop electrification station locator

truck stop

Good new for truckers. A new Internet-based mapping program can now help truckers find truck stops with idle reduction facilities. It is an on-site system that can help not only in cutting down on fuel use, but also reduction in air emissions at the same time.

These idle reduction technologies could help reduce use of diesel fuel by about 800 million gallons a year! Estimates show that this will make a potential savings to the trucking industry of $2 billion each year!

It is an interagency agreement by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) that led to the development of the Truck Stop Electrification Station Locator (TSE). And this innovation was funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT’s) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

A collaboration between the FHWA and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities activity gave birth to the project.

Stan Bull, NREL Associate Director of Science and Technology said,

We developed this tool to help guide truck drivers to truck stop locations with idle reduction capabilities because reducing heavy-duty truck idling is an important step in reducing overall fuel consumption and improving our nation’s energy security.
