Recovery Park Urban Farming

The city of Detroit will become a little more green with the creation of the Recovery Park. The Recovery Park is a collaborative effort by a group of non-profit as well as business organizations in the Detroit region. The project envisages a whole new type of land use policy through the use of urban farming, education, commercial and housing development in the city. It aims to bring some rural features into an urban setting without causing any kind of damages to the city’s environment.

The Recovery Park project has been conceived by SHAR Inc. (Self Help Addiction Rehabilitation), a Detroit based Therapeutic Community established in 1969, in conjunction with Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC). Apart from these two organizations, as many as 25 other non-profit and business enterprises will be working to make the project see the light of day. The design of the Recovery Park concept had been done at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture.

The goal is to create an eco-friendly self-sustaining neighborhood which would also be economically beneficial to people. On the economic front, the project aims to create jobs for the people of the city through the creation of many agri-businesses. The goal is to drive the economic recovery of the neighborhood through eco-friendly and sustainable economic practices. That is why, the project will put to use large tracts of land that are currently lying vacant and unused and use them to promote eco-practices such as urban farming and energy harvesting.
