Far Reach House brings the third Energy Value Housing Awards for Scotts Homes

Scott Homes Inc, builder of the eco friendly traditional style Far Reach House in Olympia, Washington has grabbed the Energy Value Housing Awards (EVHA) of 2012. Sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders, the EVHA honors builders and re-modelers, who willingly include green aspects in building and marketing houses. Scott Homes has won the award for the third time.

Craftsman Style Home Gets a Gold Award

The craftsman style Far Reach House is a wondrous eco friendly house. With several high performance features, a traditional design and many alternative energy options, Far Reach House excels many of green structures. The house is built with 10 inch SIPs walls and floors, 8 inch stem wall and 12 inch SIPs roofs. Energy Star windows, refrigerator, dishwasher, clothes washer and a tank less on demand water heater are major green features of the building.

Solar energy is procured for powering up CFLs and LED lights and other electronics products. The entire house merges high power efficiency with rich alternative power options. The entire 2100 square foot house is built of many more green components, which include PaperStone countertops, locally and sustainably harvested western hemlock trim and ipe flors, wool carpeting and much more.

The Far Reach House belongs to Eileen Ryan and Matt Cooper, who approached the Scott Homes founder Scott Bergford for the green house. The owners were excited to get Scott as their builder. He was really informative with the project and he could provide the owners much more than they expected, Eileen said. For Scott, the Far Reach House was his chance to experiment his new thicker SIPs and ipe floors, which are not usual materials in building houses.
