Project ‘Capsule’: A design to conserve ecology of the Black Sea

The Black Sea features amongst those afflicted regions, which face the agony of water pollution caused by oil products and the declining habitation of the bottlenose dolphins. With the objective to reduce the number of poaching cases and keeping track of the population of individual bottlenose dolphins , designer Bolton Anton devised project ‘Capsule’. Project Capsule entails the construction of a data center that will float on the Black Sea and establish the required control.

Project Capsule

The data center will be shaped like a capsule and will be made out of recycled materials, including a fully sealed high strength recycled plastic shell that will allow it to act as a float. The prototype was prepared in the shape of a bionic capsule for safeguarding the surface against hard collisions. An automatic gate will take you inside the capsule and you will find the interior lined with an ambient reception, workplace for its employees and also a well equipped washroom. Also, the inside supports favorable conditions for the cultivation of plants like citrus, flax, etc.

The structure will be fully autonomous with regard to power supply and will use both solar as well as wave energy. Wave energy will be harnessed using a hydraulic motor and generator, whereas solar panels will be integrated in the roof to for capturing the sun’s energy. A special mechanism operates for maintaining temperatures inside; artificial ventilation will be facilitated through the use of photocatalytic air purifiers.

Finally the capsule is fixed to the seabed, and a special mechanism takes care that the sea water is desalinated and ready for consumption. Once the project sees the light of the day, it will not only help in restoring natural ecology of the Black Sea, but will stand as an exemplary green structure too.
