Project Blue recycled eco friendly surf packs for stylish eco-surfers

dakine oceana recon pn6WD 5784 The green bug hits the surfers too with the special edition project BLUE surf packs. Dakine, the leader in action sports accessories has stepped in to the green arena by presenting two gender-specific packs made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Partial proceeds from sale of Oceana for girls and Recon for guys will also benefit the The Surfrider Foundation, hence creating awareness. All set to hit the shore in the spring of 2009, these absolute green packs feature a seam sealed wetsuit pocket, insulated cooler pocket and organizer pocket. Both bags are constructed with 100% Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) fabric and lining which is made from recycled plastic bottles. The packs also feature recycled buckles and use a non-toxic Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) waterproof fabric backing. The girls will need to pay $5 more than the guys as Oceana retails at $75 while Recon is tagged at $70. Why this discrimination? Anyways, it’s a perfect way to haul around your surf gear while supporting sustainable products and efforts to preserve the world’s oceans waves and beaches. And the eco-contribution of the maker doesn’t end here. DAKINE has switched from PVC backing on packs and bags to more environmentally friendly Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) and Polyurethane (PU) waterproof backings. Other eco-initiatives include reduced packaging, bio-degradable recyclable plastic bags, post consumer paper hang tags and catalogs built using partial post consumer waste recycled paper and vegetable inks.
