Potenco’s Pull -Cord Generator – A cheap power source for individuals living off-grid

pull cord generator

This Pull -Cord Generator from Potenco can not only supply enough juice to power all your portable gadgets, but also give you a small workout. To get it running, you will have to pull on the cord, which instantly charges its internal batteries. Simply hold the PCG in the palm of one hand, pull the cord with the other hand, and generate instant energy. A minute of pulling can power your mp3 player for 3 hours or provide energy for 20 minutes of talk time on your mobile phone. The PCG is supposed to powers everything from rechargeable batteries, to house lighting, cell phones, radios, GPS, and of course, notebooks. Its output typically ranges between 12W and 15W, with a maximum of 20W. Video after the jump.

It is mainly intended as a cheap power source for individuals living off-grid situations. However, in order to make it compatible for the third world, it needs to be affordable, which explains Potenco’s alliance with the One Laptop Per Child Project (OLPC). As most know, the OLPC intends to provide their XO laptop to children in developing countries, through deals with governments and individual contributions for the now- $180-estimated laptop. The PCG will come with every XO laptop purchase, but the company also wants to make it separately available in order to make an even bigger impact. At the moment, there is no estimate about its separate cost.
