Solar energy is future energy. And Portugal has taken a commendable step in constructing what it says is the world’s most powerful solar power plant.
In today’s era, when Global warming is on its high, Solar energy is the safest option. In constructing the plant, Portugal’s aim was to cut its reliance on imported fuel and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases that add to global warming. 
The 11-megawatt plant has 52,000 photovoltaic modules, which will produce 20 gigawatt hours of power each year. On the contrary, burning fossil fuels, which are a fuel for global warming too, to generate the same amount of energy would result in 30,000 tons of greenhouse gases being emitted over the course of a year. The plant would not only help in keeping the environment clean, but generate jobs also, in the Alentejo region 200km (125 miles) southeast of Lisbon, a poor area traditionally dominated by cork and olive production. It would bring overall development for the small country. To its advantage, Portugal is blessed with a plentiful sunshine.
With Global warming spreading its tentacles, using Solar and Wind energy and decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels is the only way we can save our planet. Moreover, it does not cost us anything. Though, the construction of plants would amount to investing some amount, but once constructed, the plants will remain evergreen. Every country must make initiative of this sort.
