Eco Factor: Solar canopy charging station charges EV, electric bikes and most portable devices.

The US city of Portland took a new leap forward in promoting green-building, transportation and renewable energy within the city. Portland got its first public solar canopy charging station in the south parking lot of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. The solar canopy that can charge electric vehicles, electric bikes and most portable devices has been installed with the collaboration of Sanyo, In Spec Group, Portland General Electric and the OMSI.

The solar canopy covers three standard sized parking lots with 195 modules from Sanyo and can generate a minimum of 7.8MWh and up to 10MWh of energy a year. The canopy also features weatherproof lockers, each with 120V AC outlets, with two of the lockers serving as charging mounts for the Sanyo hybrid bicycle.
