People’s Power Pavilion to promote use of alternate energy system built in the environment

The people’s power pavilion is a massive structure, designed to be a large gathering place that will be integrated with an alternate energy system. This system will rely on three power sources, including the sun, the wind and human muscle power. Like all designs by Michael Jantzen, this one too is meant for serving the community in two fold manner; one as hub of alternate energy production and second as an architectural art attraction.

The Peoples Power Pavilion

Coming to how the three sources of energy will be used independently, let us begin with wind. For harnessing its energy, the pavilion will be mounted with large custom vertical axis wind turbine. Flexible solar cells will be mounted on the roof as long black strips for capturing energy from the sun. Lastly, people’s muscle power will be acquired through the use of exercise bikes. These free use bikes will get activated using cell phones and once pedalled, the electric energy so produced will be diverted to the local grid. Another added incentive for people is that they will get personal energy credits on using the bikes.

Apart from generating energy for the local grid, the structure is self sustained. The centre of the pavilion will be fixed with a low energy consuming LED display screen and light. And, it will be used as a community bulletin board. It will glow with abstract patterns as an when energy will be captured from the sun, wind, or exercising people.

The design is planned to provide plenty of space to the visitors for sitting and enjoying. They will have an all time access to the internet too. The structure will have glass doors that can be closed during the winters and left open during summers. Also the roof has been deliberately designed to collect rainwater that is channelled to storage tanks under the pavilion and can be used for watering the vegetation on campus and the surroundings as well.

This structure is a central hub for alternate energy harnessing that will be radiated to all directions. Suitable for setting up in various locations, it will be a fun place to hang out in, exercise and will be a promotional platform to educate people about the use and need of renewable energy.
