Art begins with imitation but ends in innovation. Time and again we have heard about and seen many such creations across the world. Recently Patrick Acton has come up with his striking piece of art, which will be an eye catcher for many. This patient matchstick artist has created a boom in the world of design through his unbelievable installation of a spectacular imitation of the Notre Dame Cathedral by using nothing more than just simple matchsticks.

Notre Dame Cathedral using 298,000 MATCHSTICKS

Acton has committed a long period of thirty five years for making models out of matchsticks and this Parisian structure is one of his latest creations, in which apart from using matchsticks he also uses some toothpicks. The artist spent eight years researching on the building before he finally began to assemble it, as it is one of the most detailed and complex model, on which he had ever worked. He used two lakh ninety eight thousand matchsticks and fifty five liters of wood glue to amass this huge formation placing each and every matchstick individually. This re constructed cathedral features an amazing arrangement of spires, arches and towers that incarcerate even the minute detail of this magnificent building. After putting in hours of hard work and concentration, he recently gave his final touches to this brilliant piece of art, which weighs thirty eight kilograms.

This impressive creation brings out the artist’s dedication and his love for art. For making his models in the beginning he used to buy matches from the local grocery store and then laboriously used to remove the tip of every match, but now he has started using special non sulphur tip matches. It is great to read that there is no dearth of creative artists who brilliantly create innovative structures of a variety of forms.
