Paper from apple! Yes, that is what Dr Albert Volcan, an engineer have successfully made. The waste that the apple and the apple-juice industry produce is organic waste. Albert successfully used his Volcan process, and eventually transformed apple waste into paper.
This work of his won him a prize, which helped him earn a € 150.000 funding by the European Social Fund. The ‘Volcan process’ consists of a drying, a cooling and a grinding phase. Without any loss in the cellulose and sugar contents, the process made it possible to stop the apple fermentation process. And these are the essential elements for the paper making. And all these efforts and processes have produced a new paper with the name ‘Cartamela®’.
