Panorama concept EV lives up to its name

Panorama Concept Car

The Nissan Panorama mid-size concept car by the Spanish industrial designer Victor Romero lives up to its name by offering an unprecedented panoramic view of the surroundings for the car’s passengers. The sides of the car and its roof are made of tinted glass to give the car riders an unprecedented driving experience of openness to their surroundings and light and space. The designer says that the design uses less parts than conventional car bodies and will stimulate new thinking in the materials and the manufacturing process for car bodies. This could perhaps lead to the manufacture of several versions in smaller production runs,to appeal to different user segments.

The concept car is designed as an Electric Vehicle or a Hybrid with large wheels. Spaces for engine or motor components and modular batteries have been segregated from the interior and mounted on the “bone” chassis for passenger safety.

The car has many other features that are novel. The transparent doors swing upwards reducing the parking space needed. The seats are mounted on swivel platforms for the interior to be reconfigured as a lounge or a small office. The center console between seats serves as a table top or has connection points for power and internet. The roof can have a inbuilt high resolution projector and the side glass panels can accommodate solar photo-voltaic panels. The boot space is accessible also from inside the car and can be modified to be used as a pantry space, including, for example, a coffee machine.

Large and comfortable seats complement the swivel platforms that serve the additional function of being a safety frame around the passengers for crash protection. Victor Romero’s Concept car should trigger innovation in the approach to car design.
