A local information website has set out to rate Britain’s greenest town. To rank them, it has analyzed the number of businesses good for the environment — like those associated with recycling, prevention of pollution and conservation of resources.

It has ranked the county capital of Norfolk — Norwich — as the most environmentally friendly place to live in England and Wales! But, a new research reveals that the people of London are reckoned to worry little over green matters.

Here are the best and the least green towns of the country.

1 Norwich

2 Peterborough

3 Tunbridge Wells

4 Wellingborough

5 Taunton

UK’s least green towns:

1 Barking and Dagenham

2 Renfrewshire

3 Trafford

4 Kingston upon Hull

5 Hackney

Points were awarded to districts for the number of companies involved in activities like — double glazing. It reduces the noise pollution effects, improving energy efficiency, insulation. This also saves energy and recycling.

Organic food firms avoiding artificial pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers; and farm shops, selling local produce also won points for the award. These reduce pollution.

Charity shops recycling goods and cutting down on energy resources used in making new products also gained points.
