Eco Factor: 3G mobile network base station is powered by solar energy.

Ncell, a mobile phone and internet operator in Nepal, has set up a 3G base at an altitude of 5200 meters at the bottom of Mount Everest. The speed of the 3G services will be 3.6MB per second, which can be enhanced to 7.2MB per second when there is demand.

A total of nine stations have been installed, with the service being targeted at approximately 30,000 tourists who come to trek in Nepal’s Himalayan region every year. The service has not been tested from the top of the Everest, but the company believes that it’s theoretically possible.

Four of the base stations are powered by solar energy with a backup battery that can power the stations for up to three days. The stations are capable of providing 3G series to 50 people at a time.
