NanoLight could elbow CFLs off most efficient light bulb list

Two decades ago, buying a light bulb was all about brands. As a rule of thumb, a more popular brand generally made a bulb that lasted longer. The only other major considerations for buyers was how much each bulb cost and whether it was a screw on or wedge in. fast forward to the 2000s, the light bulb scene was revolutionized by the compact fluorescent bulb that did not look anything like the traditional incandescent bulb. It also emitted a bright white light unlike the regular golden glow of the old timey bulbs. The main USP of the CFL was that it lasted for years at an end and consumed just a fraction of what the incandescent bulb did. However, almost as soon as CFLs became commonplace, innovators and planet lovers declared that LEDs are the most efficient types of light bulbs on the planet.

Even though most people have slowly begun transitioning to LED based light fixtures, a lot of people still hold a proverbial torch for the form of the incandescent bulb of yore. And now, this trio of Toronto grads have created one as well. Dubbed NanoLight, the LED based light bulb looks like an abstract incarnation of the regular incandescent bulb with the smooth curvaceous surface of the latter being replaced by an angular one.

Its makers claim that it is the worldโ€™s most energy efficient light bulb and loses very little energy as heat from its surface. This means that the bulbโ€™s surface always remains cool to touch. The bulb provides as much light as an incandescent bulb fueled by100 watts though the NanoLight only sucks in 12 watts of electricity to produce just as much light. the Kickstarter campaign that is funding the production of these bulbs has already crosses $20,000 goal and their $241,000 backing is all set to grow even further when the campaign ends 7 days later.
