The city of Nanjing, China, is all set to be dressed up for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. The grand event will see the best young men and women from all across the globe compete and a fabulous new Nanjing is getting ready to welcome them. The festivities will reach their peak when the city will embrace its tradition and carry it forward into the future with buildings lit up like thousands of lanterns creating a visual spectacle.
The design for the opening ceremony, the event and the re-shaping of Nanjing has been taken up by Populous, the architecture and design practice behind the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. The re-designing of the city for the mega event will include new green spaces, parks, public buildings, exhibition centers and more alongside the residence facilities for athletes.
By using the lantern-styled design, that will be the focal point of the entire extravaganza, Nanjing could very well save on valuable energy and also maybe cut down on the excessives that are otherwise spent at such an event. The Nanjing re-design project is an attempt to amalgamate old Chinese tradition and culture with modern design in the best way possible!
