MIO: The Fuel Cell Wheelchair

the fuel cell wheelchair 9

This wheel chair is no simple one! It contributes hugely towards the environment by being powered by fuel-cell. This is best suited for traveling in crowded urban environment. Named MIO, the eco-friendly wheel chair uses methanol as a fuel source, generating hydrogen and thus electricity.

The fuel tank can hold 4 liters of methanol, sufficient to provide it with a range of approximately 25 miles. An LCD display shows fuel level and power sources. Therefore, unlike wheelchairs that rely solely on charged battery, it helps users from being stranded at some distance from their home with the battery fully discharged.

The generated electricity is stored in a large capacity Li-ion secondary battery, acting as a back up source of power.
