Eco Factor: Zero energy homes incorporate several alternative energy systems.
Zero series homes are eco friendly dwelling types incorporating smart design, eco materials and several environmentally friendly techniques. A manifestation of nearly six years of hard toil in sustainable building design by Michelle Kaufman Studios, the homes have been fabricated keeping in mind the clients’ needs and specific site conditions.
The homes named as the Ridge0, the Vista0 and the Contours0 incorporates several alternative energy systems. These include photovoltaic panels to harness solar energy, and also rainwater and gray water collection systems. The design cuts down energy consumption by letting in significant amount of natural light.
The Contours0 and the Vista0 houses have strategically placed windows, glass doors and skylights to ensure natural ventilation too. The Ridge0 design follows the Passivhaus principles on insulation, shading, light, efficient windows and frames, and an air-tight building envelope.
Ranging between 422 square feet and 2,643 square feet the homes have a beginning cost of $66,500 and are designed to be LEED certified.
