Eco Factor: Delivery van powered by a zero-emission electric engine.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the prototype of its new all-electric Vito delivery van. The van will be able to haul a load of 900kg and would enter limited production later this year. The company plans to deliver 100 vans to 20 customers, primarily fleet operators and public institutions that are wishing to transport items in zero-emission zones.

The second phase will involve the production of another 2000 vehicles. Since the van runs on an all-electric drivetrain, conventional combustion engines are replaced with a powerful Li-ion battery pack that delivers an operating voltage of 400V, 16A current and an available capacity of 32KWh.

The vehicle’s onboard 90KW electric motor enables it to run 130km on a full charge with an electronically limited top speed of 80kph.
