The landscape of Chicago’s Navy Pier may soon see transforamtion

A competition that was called for redesigning the outer spaces of Chicago’s Navy Pier brought to light some ingenious ideas. Amongst the five teams that competed for reconceptualizing, was !melk, whose proposal aimed at creating a new history for this people’s pleasure pier through a series of multi state designs. The following is an interesting account of how !melk proposes to remodel the landscape of the pier.

The most distinguishable feature of the proposal is erecting a tall elegant glacier, which will be one mile in thickness. This idea was inspired by the last Ice Age that led to the formation of the Great Lakes. The team, in fact studied extensively about all the natural phenomena to unify all its ideas into the existing landscape. This glacier would embrace all states of water, especially when onboard waterfalls freeze the tower into a glacier during winters.

A larger version of the fish hotel on site has been planned, which would be upgraded into a ‘Fish Resort’. This resort will be an attraction to both fish and people. Along with this it will also feature a new Gateway Plaza, which will host local markets and recreation avenues; the Shikaakwa Gardens; an elevated lawn, to be called Moraine; The Kettle, which would be a diving, and swimming pool, etc. It would not be vile to claim that the design brings you much more than would fit in the scope of your imagination.

!melk intends to keep economic and environmental sustainability at the helm of its affairs and aspires to achieve a the long term goal of rendering Chicago’s Navy Pier as a one stop destination for educating, entertaining both locals and tourists, once again bringing them more close to the roots of Chicago’s culture and lifestyle.
