Kodak 3A Folding Pocket Camera recycled to revisit a passion

Tony Richards’s image blog Fourtoes covers some of the most beautiful photographs I have ever seen. In the past 12 years of his career as a photographer, he has worked with all possible type of photographic processes, updating himself about HRD and other digital technologies. But even today, it’s the shoot film and the historic photographic processes that work best for him. It was around the month of April, when he was visiting his family in South Wales and was given a bag full of photography equipment, including a Kodak 3A folding pocket camera. He got so intrigued with the vintage piece that he promptly decided to recycle it and make it work.

Recycled Kodak 3A Folding Pocket Camera

The pictures of the 3A folding pocket camera show that it is bordered with heavy seal grain leather and has a state of the art aluminum body, with some fine wooden accents. Of course, the size does not seem fit for any pockets; I wonder why they named it as a pocket camera.

The 3A camera that Richard found had a damaged shutter and aperture. It has a Bausch and Lomb f4 lens and it is still in a fully functional condition with the shutter and the time setting feature, all working well. It is the metalwork that became flaky and coarse and its leather covering, which become brittle over time and required good amount of hard work. Richard had to scrub, scratch and wax the metal hard to lease it an all new life.
