Here is a simple trick that will help you reduce the power used by the appliance to keep your goodies cool. The catch is that the emptier the freezing chest is the more energy the freezer will need. Therefore, try to keep the freezer as laden as possible and if you run out of food that needs to be frozen, use water filled jugs to fill in the extra spaces. This water can also be used to keep your food from getting stale in case of a power failure and can also fulfill your drinking needs if you have a water outage.
