Best innovations in green travel

There are many eco enthusiasts across the world, who are working tirelessly to come up with machines and gadgets that can help us in reducing our carbon footprint while traveling.

Bombardier Eco 4 train

The credit for designing sustainable Bombardier Eco 4 train goes to Francisco Lupin, who has designed this maglev train to make public transportation more attractive. This train is powered by solar energy. The roof of the train features solar panels, which trap sunlight. These panels are connected to a motor system that allows the panels to move around 30 degrees as per the position of the sun. An onboard computer regulates the rotation automatically. An automatic pilot system guides this futuristic train. This train features a projector system that projects different information to the user regarding the outside temperature, the next station, etc.

Eco Airship

Designed by Laurens Rademakers, the Stirling Solar Electric Airship can help the aviation industry reduce its cost significantly and also make air travel more eco friendly. Rademakers has used the principle of a Stirling Engine in this one of a kind airship and it has the potential to remain afloat in the air for long periods of time. This engine works on the principle of the heat difference between different layers of the ship, and the amount of energy produced is directly proportional to the heat difference. This ship uses a solar dish for capturing solar energy, which converts into heat and the energy thus produced can keep the airship afloat even at night. Unfortunately, this is just a concept and it remains to be seen whether this ship will ever become a reality.

B2us hybrid bus

Industrial designer Francesc Gasch deserves credit for designing a hybrid powered, low emission bus, which can be used for public transportation in the Spanish city of Barcelona. This bus has got an attractive design with curves at the corners. The external shell has a color combination of black, red and white. This bus uses hybrid transmission technology with some parts guided on solar energy. The roof of the bus carries solar panels. The principle of magnetic levitation has been used for the advanced suspension of the B2us hybrid bus.

Aircruise

Designed by creative minds at London based Seymourpowell, this eco friendly concept airship is powered by solar energy and hydrogen fuel cells. The futuristic Aircuise, which is a combination of a hotel and an airship, is named ‘Clipper in the Clouds’. This luxurious emission free concept can achieve a high speed of 90mph. It has four huge duplex apartments and five smaller apartments. Besides this, the aircuise features lounge, bar and entertainment areas as well. The glass floors of this giant airship offer scintillating views from the sky.

Air Train

Train journeys are regarded by many as one of the most relaxing and comfortable means of traveling, but things may get uncomfortable if the train becomes crowded due to the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the passenger cabin. Fransesco Codice, a product design Graduate from San Marino, has come up with the concept of purifying the air inside train cabins. This concept makes use of green plants that purify air with the help micro organisms called pathogens, converting excess carbon dioxide into oxygen.
