How eco-friendly are the HCL laptops? Controversy prevails

hcl infosystems 9It all happened hours after the international environmental NGO Greenpeace alleged HCL Infoystems’ laptops as not being environment-friendly. The company announced its launching of eco-efficient Notebook PCs in India.

The company claimed their consumer and business notebooks as not just eco-efficient, but also is compliant with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. The gadgets are completely safe for both the users and the very environment.

Challenging Greenpeace’s earlier today’s allegation that HCL’s laptops had a number of highly toxic substances – which include lead, bromide PVC and phthalates – hazardous to both health and environment, HCL Infosystems Executive Vice President George Paul said,

HCL, as a socially responsible corporate citizen, has a comprehensive programme to ensure protection of environment, health and safety of all its stakeholders and recognizes the need to minimize the hazardous impact of e-wastes of its products on the environment.

As part of this programme, we had initiated voluntary compliance to RoHS directives for all our products.

It seems to be too early to conclude on the authentic claim.
