Nature provides us with all the raw materials for survival. But, the problem lies with how we explore and use them! It turns destructive for the environment and burdens it with landfill, when converted to non-biodegradable products or the production process pollutes the environment.
To help the Iraqi people living on this marshlands protect their rich biodiversity, here is a great cooperative venture, named ‘Canada-Iraq Marshlands Initiative’. In association with the Canadian International Development Agency, it is supported by Canadian and Iraqi university, government and non-government partners.
Let us see some of the initiatives by the team to help local people make the best use of the nature without destroying it. This mudhif house made of marsh along with its interior and the wonderful chair made of wastes of nature – dead marshes – are simply amazing.
Taken by one individual, Mudhafar Salim, a 34-year old amateur ornithologist, many of the photos on this website were shown in an exhibition in Ottawa.
