Eco Factor: Architecture design promotes quality lifestyle through built environment.
MVRDV, Rotterdam, and ADEPT, Copenhagen, in a joint effort with SLA landscape architects recently won the ‘House and Culture Movement’ in Frederiksberg. What clinched the prize for the joint effort was the improvement in quality of life which the design proposed through a built environment. The spectacular landscape offers the Flintholm neighborhood a dynamic meeting point for people of all ages to take part in a wide range of activities from health, culture, leisure and education all under one roof.
To be completed in three different stages the building establishes a new urban typology. The 4,000 m2 building is set within 4,500m2 public gardens and will be the first in a series of 3 buildings. The main building, the House of Culture and Movement’, or Ku-Be is a rectangular glass volume containing six stacked ideal programmatic elements. Each of the stacked elements have specific use such as a theater, a health zone, food zone, a zen area, a study center and exhibition hall, fitness and activity center, a wellness center and an area for the administration.
The design envisages utilization of green technologies like solar panels, natural ventilation and underground hot and cool storage to make up for an energy efficient building. All the three buildings would be wrapped in an urban curtain, which acts as frame for the garden offering greater flexible use for art projects, bicycle parking, water and light installations.
The first phase is to be completed in 2015 and has a total budget of 17 million Euro.
