Finally, we have come across an innovative yet adaptable design concept that makes a nigh total usage of recyclable building materials in the form of wooden pallets. This fascinating proposal in collaboration with architect Luis Rivera, is an entry design for the 2011 City of Dreams Pavilion Contest in Governor’s Island, New York.
The wooden pallets will be used in different capacities. At the lower levels they will be used as seats for resting and relaxing, but as we move upwards these pallets will form artistic spiraling ‘pillars’ to support a large shade made of a recyclable yet sturdy fabric.
But its not only about efficient resource management; this uniquely aesthetic pavilion conception would also epitomize the very virtue of ‘multi-purposefulness’ with its open-flexible design. It will prove to be an ideal center for a variant number of recreational and educational activities like lectures, congregations, meditations, dance performances and even picnicking. Also, the idea from its creators is to partner with an environmentally conscious pallet recycling company. At the end of the Dream Weaver’s life, the pallets will be returned to the company and will eventually re-enter some other service.
