Gravia LED Lamp: Green investment for your grandchildren to inherit!

gravia

We buy and discard things without giving a second thought about the environment. There is so much talk about recycling stuff in order to prevent global warming but what if we never have to throw things away to recycle? The Gravia LED Lamp, designed by a Virginia Tech student will light up your abode eight hours a day, 365 days a year and will last for over 200 years. What’s more, the greenest lamp is powered by a renewable resource, gravity.

So, how does this work? The user has to move the weights from the bottom to the top and place it in the mass sled near the top of the lamp. As the sled glides down, the LEDs come on and light up the lamp. Electricity is generated by the slow fall of a mass that spins a rotor giving a light output of 600-800 lumen, equal to a 40 watt incandescent bulb that lasts over four hours. The portable acrylic LED lamp stands four feet tall and is cord free making the concept all the more exciting. It would now be interesting to see if Gravia can give other lamp manufacturers a run for their money. Time for some green investments!
