The 400 pound battery pack generates an output of 110KW. The batteries provide the vehicle a range of about 340 miles, powered by electricity at all times. For up to the first 40 miles the car is powered solely by electricity stored in its 16KWh lithium-ion battery after which a small generator/engine kicks in to extend the range another 300 miles of a full tank of gas.
