Global Debut: Shanghai sees the introduction of the Buick Envision concept

Buick’s global design language merged with Chinese aesthetics drives a change in people’s perception of SUVs. Reflecting a convergence of future ideas and technology for Buick in the Shanghai market, the Buick Envision SUV concept vehicle made its global debut today.

The Envision was developed jointly by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), it introduces the development direction for Buick’s future SUV products for the market.

According to Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design,

The Envision has inherited Buick design DNA and taken the Buick global design language to a new height. It makes a significant statement for Buick styling and technology, and will influence upcoming models from the brand.

The Envision features: 22-inch doubled-layered aluminum alloy wheels, Silicon sports tires feature an asymmetrical unidirectional tread reducing resistance, noise and energy consumption and ensuring the safety expected from an SUV. Multiple ridge lines replace the chunky rear of traditional SUVs.

Waterfall grille mixed with a host of angles and curves, fully-carbon fiber chassis, solar charging system, eight-speed automatic gearbox, 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engine, two electric motors, lithium-ion battery, GM’s world-leading PHEV plug-in hybrid system, three micro-cameras for rearview supported by technology: Bluetooth DUN Intelligent Internet system, micro-cameras and transmitting sensors, MRC electromagnetic suspension, OLED touch screen aided by an auxiliary speech function, Flex-touch central console, Buick’s classic ice-blue lighting, the “yin and yang” color concept, scissor-style doors with sensors ….and many more reflecting futuristic look and performance expanding all horizons.

Auto Shanghai 2011 would have its appearance to stun the SUV market with its next generation comfort and convenience combined with a visual effect of peace and elegance. China geared up for the all weather driving pleasure, with the advent of the Buick Envision SUV concept.
