Eco Factor: Energy-efficient residential building powered by renewable energy.
Architects at Geotectura have conceptualized a residential building for Haifa, Israel. Dubbed SunSail, the building will make use of the most advanced ecological technologies to reduce its carbon footprint. The sustainable residential building will include 12 residential units that will be powered by renewable solar energy.
The southern façade of the building will be embedded with photovoltaic cells and the façade will be designed to resemble a sail to maximize solar exposure. In addition to generating renewable solar energy, the southern façade will also help in capturing rainwater and act as a heat isolator.
The building also adds a public garden suggesting a green extension to the existing garden on the site. Passive methods to reduce energy consumption have also been introduced. The sail façade makes best use of day light to reduce energy consumption. Water reuse and recycling systems will also be included to curb freshwater consumption.
