General Electric builds solar-powered charging station for EVs

Solar Carport

Almost all electric car owners know that commuting in an electric vehicle isnt entirely green if the electricity used to recharge their much-loved EV is coming from conventional coal-fired power plants. While there is no dearth of individuals who try to commute in an entirely green fashion by developing their own solar charging stations, companies such as General Electric are helping their employees by building a solar-powered charging station in the parking lot of its Plainville facility.

The company recently constructed a solar-powered EV charging station for plugging in electric vehicles. Electricity to charge the electric vehicles comes from an array of solar panels and the facility includes four hook-ups to charge four electric vehicles simultaneously. The company is now planning to build similar carports across the country.
