Eco Factor: Toyota to use a new energy-saving technology called Tri-generation at its Melbourne HQ’s.

Toyota plans to make additions to its existing energy-saving paraphernalia at its corporate headquarters in Melbourne. It plans to use a new energy saving technology called Tri-generation, under which the company will install a gas-powered turbine to generate electricity for the building. It will also use the waste heat from the turbine for both heating and cooling purposes as well.

Designed with an eco-friendly approach, the company’s headquarters are already equipped with external solar shades, storm water recycling, a 90-meter glazed atrium and an air-reticulation system for reduced energy use. The tri-generation plant which itself will cost around $1.5 million is expected to reduce the building’s CO2 emissions by 210 tons per year.
