Functional Art from Plastic Bottle Bases

functional art

Michelle Brand “loves to see design opportunities where other people see problems”. It is amazing to see how beauty could come from old plastic bottles! The bases from empty plastic bottles are the main raw material for Michelle’s creations. The bottle bases are generally patterned in a beautiful sort of floral shape.

She innovatively sands them and tags them together to create functional art. The ‘cascade’ light (pictured) is a dramatic statement. And they can be created to whatever length suits. There’s also the versatile ‘flowerfall’, which can be used as a window screen or room divider. It takes around a month to place pieces in order and complete the whole creation. It is priced at £300.
