Fuel Cell Road sweeper cleans Switz streets with green oomph

There is absolutely no doubt that hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology is the way forward when it comes to providing clean energy for the future. This is all the more true in case of the automobile industry which has already embraced this with glee. The fuel cell road sweeper was employed on the streets of Basel in 2009 and it has been in an observation and test phase since then. Through the initial year, it did have glitches that needed fixing like the sensor, cooling pump and voltage converter. But then every new technology has a few glitches and with those now well behind us, it is time for the technology to expand.

Fuel Cell Road Sweeper Testing Enters Next Phase

The hydrogen powered fuel cell clean machine did get a revamp in 2011 with a few tech tweaks and it has been working hassle-free on a daily basis for over a year now. The authorities have now decided to shift it from Basel to Gallen and further observe and maybe adopt the vehicles on a larger scale across Switzerland. Now only did the fuel cell technology cut down on emissions by more than 40% compared to traditional vehicles employed for road cleaning, but fuel efficiency has been doubled.

Even refueling seems easy as operators themselves carry it out and this highlights the safety and stability of the hydrogen fuel cell technology. While this might have taken a long time to come, it now seems obvious that authorities in major cities across the world are making an all out effort to go green. And that makes plenty of sense in today’s world not just from an eco standpoint, but also from an economic perspective.
